How to find the tracking number of an Amazon order
Amazon shows tracking on the order itself. Whether you also get a tracking number you can use elsewhere depends on who delivers the package: Amazon's own delivery network, or an outside carrier.
Where to look
- Your Orders: open Your Orders on the Amazon website or in the app, find the order and choose "Track package". The tracking page shows the delivery progress and, when an outside carrier delivers the package and Amazon has its tracking details, the carrier's name and the tracking ID.
- The shipping confirmation email: Amazon emails you when an item ships, with a link to the same tracking page.
- Orders from other sellers: items sold and shipped by a third-party seller are sent with the seller's chosen carrier; the tracking ID and carrier are shown on the order's tracking page only when the seller provides them and the shipping service is tracked.
Why there may be no carrier tracking number
Many Amazon orders are delivered by Amazon's own delivery network. Their tracking IDs often start with TBA followed by 12 digits, and their full tracking is shown on Amazon. Depending on the country and the service, such numbers may not be trackable on other websites, or only with fewer details. Orders delivered by a postal service or courier (for example a national post, UPS or DHL) have that carrier's number, which works on the carrier's website and in package trackers.
Order number or tracking ID?
The order number (three groups of digits, such as 123-1234567-1234567) identifies your purchase at Amazon, not the shipment: carriers can't track it. Use the tracking ID shown on the tracking page. Even when a tracker can't follow an Amazon delivery ID, Amazon's own tracking page usually still shows the progress.
One order, several packages
Amazon often splits an order: items from different warehouses or sellers ship separately, each with its own tracking. Check every shipment listed on the order, and match the items to the right package before you report anything missing.
Be careful with emails and text messages that claim to be from Amazon and ask you to pay, confirm an address or log in through a link to release a package. Check the order in the Amazon app or by typing the website address yourself instead.
Tracking the number outside the Amazon app
Copy the number exactly as shown, then paste it into the field below or into the Trackful app. If it fits several carriers, pick the one the order page names. If the carrier doesn't know the number yet, see tracking number not found: right after shipping, that is normal.
Trackful is an independent package tracker. It is not affiliated with Amazon, has no access to your Amazon account and doesn't import orders from it. In the Android app you can connect a mailbox (Gmail with an app password, or any IMAP mailbox): a model on your phone reads shipping emails, including those from online shops, and suggests the tracking numbers it finds. You choose which to add. Email content stays on your phone; only the numbers you add are sent to check their status.
Track your package
Paste a tracking number: Trackful looks it up with the carrier (or asks you to pick one) and shows the updates the carrier reports. Free, no sign-up, up to 3 packages in the browser.
On Android, the Trackful app finds tracking numbers in your shipping emails on your phone and notifies you when a status changes.
